A year of new beginnings, three months in. May arrives quietly with a different request, not what is starting, but what is being tended.

The texture of the month

2026 sums to 1, the first year of a new nine-year cycle. A planting year. May 2026 is a 6 month within that year (1 + 5 = 6). Six is the number of the caretaker, of home, responsibility, harmony, beauty.

The combination is gentle but specific. In a 1 year you are meant to be sowing seeds, the planting year wants you starting things. May, the 6 month, slows that momentum and asks instead about tending. The seeds you have planted in January, February, March, April, are they being cared for, or just chased?

What this month is asking

Look at what you have begun in the first four months of this cycle. Be honest about which beginnings you have been nurturing and which you have abandoned for the next new idea. A 1 year rewards initiation, but only the things you also tend will mature.

Three quiet practices for May:

• Tend one relationship. Pick the person in your immediate care whom you have been short with this year, and offer them a single, undistracted hour.
• Tend one space. A room in your home, a corner of your work, a section of your garden, choose beauty over efficiency this month.
• Notice resentment. A 6 month surfaces it quickly. Resentment is the body's signal that you are over-giving without receiving. Adjust before May ends.

A year of beginnings still needs a month to tend what has just begun.

May is the calibration month between January's seed and the summer's growth. June will move faster (a 7 month, reflective), and July will move differently again. For now, slow your hands and tend the small.
